# Calaverita > A writer and checker for calaveras literarias (calaveritas) - the short, rhymed, teasing mock-epitaphs about living people that are traded around Día de los Muertos (1-2 November). Give a name, how you know them, a few quirks, a language and optionally your own draft. The page scans the draft for free; a metered read writes or fixes the calavera in four-line stanzas from your quirks only and gives a close reading of its rhyme, rhythm, images and turn. URL: https://calaverita.skillsafe.ai/ API tutorial: https://calaverita.skillsafe.ai/api.html Source skill: https://skillsafe.ai/skill/@rysweet/poet-analyst (close reading through imagery, metaphor, rhythm, form and emotional truth) ## What is free, in the browser - The draft hung as a string of papel picado flags: one flag per line with its line number, a rhyme letter (lines whose endings chime share a letter and a colour) and an approximate syllable count. Spanish lines are counted as metric syllables (synalepha between words, plus one for a stressed last syllable, minus one for an antepenultimate stress); English lines by vowel groups. These are rule-of-thumb estimates, not a scansion. - A hunt for Death in her many names (La Muerte, La Catrina, La Flaca, La Calaca, La Huesuda, La Pelona, the skeleton, the grave) and for words that usually turn a tease into a jab at looks or weight, health, a divorce or loss, or money trouble. - The page's verdict by five ordered, non-overlapping rules: fresh (no draft), soften (a jab word), rewrite (under four lines, no rhyming pair anywhere, or no Death), tune (a stanza with no rhyming pair, or a line 3+ syllables off its stanza), else keep. - Exports: Markdown and JSON at any time; the poem as plain text, a printable SVG card and the same card as a PNG image once a poem exists, plus a Share button that hands the poem to the phone's share sheet (or copies it). ## What the metered read returns - verdict: fresh, soften, rewrite, tune or keep - the same rules, judged by ear; the model says why when it differs from the scan. - poem: a heading and four-line stanzas (the requested count for fresh, soften and rewrite; the draft's own lines, fixed where needed, for tune and keep), plus a plain line-by-line English gloss when the language is Spanish with a gloss. - reading: three to five close-reading notes, each tagged rhyme, rhythm, imagery, turn or tone. - changes: each changed line, was -> now, with why. - jabs: for soften only, each hurtful draft line, what it mocks, and how the new line keeps the joke on a habit. - send_note: one line to send with the poem. The page re-checks every reply: four-line stanzas, the stanza count asked for, Death present, the person named, no jab words in the poem itself, a gloss that matches the stanzas, changes that quote real draft lines, and no internal field names in prose. ## Grounding and tone The model sees only the form and the draft. Every joke comes from the quirks, the setting, the relation or the draft; quirks keep their own terms. It never assumes a gender the input does not state, and it teases habits - never a body, health, identity, money trouble or a real loss. Día de los Muertos is treated as a celebration of remembrance, not Halloween. ## Pages - https://calaverita.skillsafe.ai/ - the app - https://calaverita.skillsafe.ai/api.html - API tutorial in eight languages, with worked examples for every verdict
